Solution To Temporary Duplicate Content
Content duplication
It is quite possible that if you run a product page, you will have the same product listed on various pages due to the different headers that the product falls under. Also, if you have an immediate reporting to make, it is possible that you have the same news content on several of your websites. If you have always been a high quality content provider, then this will worry you a little. You do not want to lose the ranking you have on the search engines, but it is inevitable to have those duplicates there for a specific period of time. The challenge here lies in having those algorithms understands that you mean well and you have not actually violated the rules of authentication of content.
Dodging the content filter
Since there have been cases where whole websites or a set of articles have been copy-pasted from already existed content and the search engine does not require any more of those identical webpages, they have come up with the system of filtering duplicate content. Unless you have taken out huge chunks of websites from a certain URL and posted in on your site, you should probably not be worried about this. However, it is also possible that when you have the same stuff painted across your pages, this duplicate filter may take your website for a copied version and reduce your visibility. When you have a legitimate reason to have similar content and sometimes have duplicate or similar content, then you will need to find ways to get around this filter.
Rel=canonical tag
In instances where you would do better off not having your similar pages, that are in there for a purpose, noticed, you can use the rel=canonical tag to redirect your pages to the source page. This will prevent the search engine algorithms from penalizing your sites due the nature of similarity in their sites. Google’s engineer developer Matt Cutts has recommended this to be the best option for all those sites that need to take care of their websites that have similar information across their pages.
What can go wrong?
While following this system of tagging, however, you should be very careful not to direct all you important pages to the home URL. This will unnecessarily confuse your reader by taking them to the home page every time they click on a link. This will deprive them from receiving relevant information and make your website infamous and your ranking will receive an undesired blow from the whole process.
Keep your rankings under control
If your site has the reputation of being authentic for a really long period of time and you do not want one little duplicity to tarnish that image, then a rel=canonical tag can be a real savior for you. By directing the readers to the most preferred page having the same content, they will keep you in the brighter side of their rankings while enabling you to deliver quality content to your visitors.
